Information on important events after balance sheet date

Under the general economic framework, the war between Ukraine and Russia was mentioned. At the date of writing this annual report, the measurable financial impact of this crisis is still limited for Argenta. In early 2023, 2 US credit institutions initially ran into (liquidity) problems, namely Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. Both institutions failed during March 2023, with the US Central Bank (Federal Reserve) intervening and providing additional protection to depositors. These events created turmoil among investors and financial markets. Afterwards, US First Republic Bank also ran into trouble. Meanwhile, a consortium of 11 US banks, backed by the US government and Central Bank, proceeded to inject USD 30 billion of liquidity into First Republic Bank, which should enable the bank to cope with liquidity problems for the time being. In Europe, Credit Suisse came under the spotlight because of the negative evolution of its financial condition, and sparked by the notification that material weaknesses had been identified in its financial reporting.

On 20 March 2023, it was announced that Credit Suisse, under the mediation of the Swiss government and regulator, will be acquired by UBS, in order to try to contain an extension of this crisis and restore confidence. Swiss regulator FINMA hereby announced that Credit Suisse's additional Tier 1 bonds in this operation, will be written down to zero. That write-down has a significant impact on bond markets, as several European bond funds have exposure to this type of subordinated debt, and also creates potential uncertainty and pressure on the future marketability and interest cost of these securities. Meanwhile, several Central Banks have opened up additional borrowing opportunities for banks as a precautionary measure.

At the date of this annual report, the immediately measurable financial impact of this crisis is limited for Argenta, as Argenta has no direct exposures to the four institutions involved. The consequences of the above events and further deployments to other institutions or evolutions in the financial markets and the economic outlook are not yet known at present. Argenta continues to monitor the events closely and will take the necessary measures at the appropriate time and also take them into consideration when determining Argenta's financial position.
